How? SMHFA

We are accredited by NHS Scotland Healthy Working Lives to instruct Scotland’s Mental Health First Aider (SMHFA) course.

SMHFA covers many areas including how to spot the signs and symptoms of someone experiencing MH issues, depression, anxiety, and recovery.  The benefits of the knowledge provided during training are not limited to colleagues.  It can also assist with supporting family, friends and community.

We will deliver in-house training to your business dependent on your requirements.

We also offer shared or public training sessions at a cost of £125 per person.  This can be a more cost effective method for smaller businesses, ensuring you have trained MHFA’s in your team.  These sessions are held in our comfortable training room in Paisley, just 8 minutes walk from Gilmour Street Train Station and a few minutes drive from Junction 29 of the M8.

The 2 day course offers information on a variety of mental health issues to help you gain the confidence to comfort and signpost someone experiencing distress to further support or professional help.  Delivery options can be discussed to suit, but are generally delivered as 2 consecutive days.  This is a collaborative course with activities, film clips and case studies for discussion.

Previous experience or qualifications in the field of mental health are not required for this course.

On completion of the course, you will be provided a copy of

  • your own NHS Scotland Mental Health First Aid manual for reference and a Certificate of Attendance
  • NHS Scotland Certificate of Attendance – (2 days attendance required)
  • NHS Steps for Stress CD
  • For open/public sessions, refreshments and snacks are provided.  Packed lunch can be stored in fridge, microwave also available.
There is no restriction to who can attend however, we would ask that anyone currently experiencing issues or illness have a chat with us first as it may be too soon to talk about some of the topics being covered.

There is an increased drive to provide Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) in all businesses.  EPIC Wellbeing can provide Mental Health Awareness Sessions to all of your employees to begin the process of breaking the stigma of talking about mental health.  Further, we can then facilitate training your staff (Scotland only) to become MHFAs, enabling signposting to any colleague in need of support.

Why not make EPIC Wellbeing your preferred trainer – try us out , a professional mental health practitioner providing the course could make all the difference!
